1. Irwin, D. (1997). Neoclassicism. London:
Phaidon Press
In this book David Irwin gives us an
understanding of the richness and variety of the movement and adopts all
manifestations of Neoclassicism. This book gives you a wider understanding of
the neoclassical period and the survival of the style beyond 1830 up to the
present.
2. Brumfield, WC. (1989, December 1st). Antimodernism
and the neoclassical revival in Russian architecture, 1906-1916. Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, 48(4), 371
In 1906-1916 Russian Architecture was
against modernism and Neoclassicism made a revival. Brumfield draws to our
attention in this journal that neoclassical architecture became the last hope
for a reconciliation of contemporary architecture with cultural values that the
Russian style could agree to. From this I can take away that Neoclassicism
wasn’t a style happily adapted by everyone at first.
3. Jones,
T.B., & Nicol, B. deB. (Eds.). (1976). Neo-classical
dramatic criticism, 1560-1770 . New York: Cambridge University Press
This book was originally published in 1976.
It is an interpretation of various thoughts from major neoclassical critics in
Italy, France and England during the period 1560-1770. The book attempts to put
a selection of early European dramatic criticism in a fresh context. This book
has given me valuable thoughts and opinions, which I can use as supporting
detail when writing on Neoclassicism for design.
4. NeoClassic. (2009, June 21st). Characteristics of Neoclassical Architecture
(article). Retrieved from http://www.neoclassic.com
In this article they call Neoclassicism a
‘timeless movement’ and say that even the inexperienced and naïve of the world
of architecture would be capable of defining the neoclassical movement. After
reading a detailed description of what Neoclassicism is and the characteristics
that the style holds in this article. I now have knowledge that I understand
and use can when comparing the neoclassical style with another such as French
rococo.
