Project Three: First Set Of Models

Below are some images of my very first attempts of creating some sort of model for this project.
I am not finding it very easy to create what I had sketched.

Original:

This here is a quick render of the starting form that I managed to come up with in solid works, using my precedents as a key influence in the design. I wanted to begin looking at creating a pattern on the faces of an organic shape that looks like it belongs under the sea. I have used the extrude cut feature in solid works to help me with this. I am wanting to continue with this effect but to a greater extent.

Changing Up The shape:

Using the same ideas and influences as the original model. I decided that the circle shape was to cliche and abit boring so instead I used the outline of a different sea creature rather than the kina and have created this really interesting organic shape. I like the shape of this model way more and think it offers me a lot more when developing it.

Iteration One:

Looking at the orignal model I did in solid works I decided that I really wanted to create a shape that was organic from all angles and wasn't flat on any of the sides. I tried doing this by combing extra pieces and making a new composition but it didn't turn out quite how I thought it would.

 Iteration Two:

Here I have just experimented using the twist modifier in 3DSMAX to try and create a more interesting composition. I don't really like it. It reminds me of piece of furniture like a chair. This isn't exactly what I want it to look like when I am going for a under the sea theme where I have been researching shells and sea creatures.

 Iteration Three

In this render I have just looked at changing the pattern slightly that I have on the face of the model. Slightly more random. Something that I am going to have to do is re consider the size of each hole and i may have to reduce the number of holes that I have.

Iteration Four Close Up:

This is just a close up of the previous model to really show the effect that the pattern makes and the texture that comes across.

Iteration Five:

In this iteration I have focused on trying to create a new texture on the other face of the model. Instead of using extrude cut, I have used boxe extrude to create different raised bits. I have also used the fillet tool in solid works to create more rounded raises, also creating a greater variety.

Iteration Five: Different View:

This here is a render to try and show what I have done on both faces. On one face I have cut extruded a pattern and the other box extruded a pattern. This is the same model as the above one.

I think that the patterns and textures are coming along quite nicely but I still want to explore making it more 3d on all faces. For example if I was to fill a latex glove up with air . I want a similar finish to my model, composition wise. I would also like to try and get some sort of texture coming off the side faces.

At the moment I have just created random textures through patterns. I think it would be quite nice to go back to the sea creatures I found like the kina and try and replicate some of the patters that I see on them. I do't want to make them identical but definitely want to show some sort of relationship.
