Project Two: Studio Two Reflection

In todays studio we discussed what navigation systems we came up with in the holidays and what research we managed to do. Not many of us had done much but we did come up with a few different navigation systems. These systems included: tomtom gps, compass, street signs, google maps and Road maps. We talked about the features that each of these had what components we could use when making our own navigation system. Something which I thought of was that all of these navigations have some sort of directional path normally with the use of the arrow symbol.

As well as this we also shared any ideas that we had already come up with for our own navigation system. Some of the ideas talked about was just using pictures that you would interact with to help you get around. Other ideas were using parts of your body which you could then bring up maps on. Something that got suggested to us was colour coding and using this to identify the different buildings and faculties on kelburn campus.

After the class discussion I decided that I wanted to keep my idea quite simple and focus on making my app easy to use and efficient. The rough idea that I came up with during class was to create a up where you are given a map of kelburn campus and from that you would draw a line between the two buildings you were wanting to go and then from that a list of instructions would come up. It got suggested to me that I looked into the colour coding and also making it so that we the maps of the buildings appeared you could see multiple floors at one time.
