In todays studio we got to try out some interactive objects that people in the group had come up with and wanted to be tested. It was such a fun lesson trying out the different things. They were all so different and required different senses to work. A couple of them were run more like a game which I liked. Having abit of competition is always fun. This is something I would like to consider when coming up and developing my own interactive object. One of the tests focused on your sense of smell and what you identify that smell with. This was done by having black pipe cleaners dipped in three different fragrances and then when had to pick a coloured felt which we best thought represented the smell. It was interesting to see what everyone thought. The three smells were raspberry, peppermint and lemon flavoured food colouring. Most of us were close but not spot on. Another test that I really enjoyed doing was the one that required you to identify the object by the sound that it made. This was done by having a whole lot of objects in a box and one person had to make a noise with two objects from that choice while the other person who could not see them had to identify what they were from the sound they heard. They had pictures of all the possible objects that they could be and chose from that. This was a really popular test as it involved more than one person and it was run more like a game. Everyone got real competitive and after a while we began to time ourselves to see how long we took. After todays trialling of others experiments I have come up with some ideas of my own. I noticed that a lot of them involved touch so I am really excited to try something that is centered around the sense sight.

The Clip: Practice Stop Motion
This is a practice of my stop motion start to end. It is not very good and I need to work on the ending so that the model is heading in the same direction (towards the door) as the clothes start to appear. In my final stop motion I want my model to start getting up from the bed to emphasis that she is getting ready for her day. Also I will make the whole thing slower so that you can follow whats happening more easily, especially when reading the slides. Overall though I think the ideas are clear and have been shown nicely through the use of the usb connection to the hand and use of the powerpoint.

The Clip: Stop Motion Progress
I have been working away at the powerpoint that I am going to be using in my stop motion. I have changed the aesthetic of it quite abit and it now incorporates a lot more images to show the various options available when picking what to where for the day. Below are some photos of what the slides look like so far.

The Clip: Story Boards
These are my final story boards for the stop motion I will be creating. I have used mannequins to display the process/story. Each mannequin is dressed differently to represent the transition which happens during the stop motion (model starts in pajamas and finishes is a new set of clothes, which she chose via the computer). Each mannequin tells a section of the stop motion. I have tried to pick 'key frames' which I think best tell a summary of the stop motion.
On the first mannequin I have tried to give an overview of the first part of the stop motion. The snap shots look at the model getting out of bed, connecting the usb cord to her hand and then opening the programme and beginning to chose what it is she would like to wear.
The second part of the story board shows some of the slides and what they look like and the options that are available for the model to choose from. The last snap shot gives a summary of what the model has selected to wear for her day.
The last mannequin of the story board gives a brief visual idea as to what happens once the model has selected what it is she would like to wear via the computer. The snap shots show her ejecting the usb and then the clothes appearing which she had chosen via the computer.
The line 'a new way of seeing has been incorporated into the stop motion by adding it onto the back of the t-shirt.

The Clip: Story Board Idea Refinement
After starting my story boards I have come to the conclusion that they are not very effective. The idea that I was using was printing off photos and laying them out of a 'set up' of the 'scene ' I use for my stop motion. The photos were not clear enough once photographed again as one picture.
I have now decided to use the mannequins which I used in the slide show as the 'object' which I will place the photos onto, visually telling the narrative of my stop motion. I think this will be a lot clearer to read and simpler to make also.

The Clip: Interim Hand-in
This is what I have so far for my stop motion. I haven't yet got to the part where the clothes apear but that is the next thing to be shown in the stop motion. After reflecting abit on what I have so far, I think it would look better if I filmed from the other side of the person or went on more of an angle so you can see the cord more. I also think I need to focus on the first slides and the end slides more and make them slower so that the viewers can pick up what is happening more. The colour charts on the slide show aren't very clear which is something I need to work on, even if it means photoshopping them. Too make sure I don't run out of time I am going to start the stop motion with the person sitting at the desk instead of getting out of bed. Overall I think this is a good practice and after doing a decent bit of what my final story is I am more clear on how to go about my final to insure it is a success.

The Clip: Design Standpoint
Media design is communicating with technology in new ways, making daily tasks easier.
Technology is becoming more of an essential tool to have in our lives. The use of technology continues to increase and this generation is relying on it a lot more for simple things such as communicating, researching and shopping. It is only fear to assume that technology is going to keep becoming more and more apart of our lives. In 30, 40, 50, 100 years I think it is realistic to believe that our world will be made around and run by technology. People will become less independent as technology begins to do more things for them and ultimately there won't be much that we will have to do for ourselves. It is already beginning to happen with in computer technology.
"In a few years, everywhere you turn, a computer will be there to assist, to inform, or simply to play with." (Dragunas, 1977, p.2).
In my stop motion I am looking at what the future of computer technology could potentially be, by focusing on the idea of technology being used for tasks that we are quite capable of doing ourselves but instead choose to have done for us. I am showing this by having a person get dressed for their day via the computer. The person is communicating with the computer and telling it what it is that they want to wear and the computer then processes that and makes it appear. All the processing of requests that the computer receives is done through a usb which is connected to the persons hand.
"The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imaginations..." ( Panton, 1969).
Through my stop motion I am wanting people to use their imagination and really consider the possibility of something similar to what is happening in the clip, happening in reality. The amount of things that a computer already offers and can do for us is incredible but will it stop here.

The Clip: Storyboard inspiration
I really like the composition of this and how it has incorporated 2d with 3d. The hands coming out of the photo holding another photo looks very effective. I would quite like to do a similar layout for my storyboard just to create something different, that still tells a story and is clear to read.

The Clip: Practice Stop Motion
This was just a real quick play around that I did in iMovie. I was just trying to figure out how to make a stop motion. I was trying to show that the persons clothes kept changing without having to do anything. It didn't really work but I now know that for my final idea I am going to need to put the camera on a stool or something to keep the photos all at one consistency (same zoom, height and view) otherwise the stop motion looks to patchy and glitchy like what happened here.

The Clip: Stop Motion Precedent One
Stop Motion Body Paint
I chose this stop motion as inspiration when brainstorming my ideas because I like how it works with the idea of adding something thats not already there like the paint on the human and this sort of relates to the ideas I was having which involved the person changing what they looked like through what they communicated on the computer.
The Clip: Individual Brainstorming
After doing some general brainstorming on Media Design and how communication is conveyed through technology I have done another brainstorm of what I would like my final clip to be about and how I am going to approach the making pf it.
The Clip: Potential Precedents
Precedent One:

This image portrays the idea of communication that I brainstormed earlier on. It is a photo of Times Square in New York. I like it because it shows the impact that advertising using billboards, posters, interactive design and tv adverts can have on people. All the flashing colour and lights draw attention. It shows how we as people are so easily exposed to this advertising all the time and I think it has the potential to help me with my idea of us listening and copying what a screen tells us to do.
Precedent Two:

| Retrieved from Google images. |
This is a really nice example of interactive and digital design. It gives a clear picture of what the aesthetic can look like. I really like it and especially how it looks like marbling. I think this would be a good precedent to show what it is we see on a computer screen and how sometimes the designs can be made so thats it is one big illusion.
The Clip: Group Brainstorm
In the group of four that I was in we looked at communication and how technology is becoming a key way for communicating. We brainstormed some different ways of communicating which were social interaction, audio visual space and marketing. We looked at examples for each of these and also where we thought this whole idea of communication through technology would take us in the future.
